I've also tried replacing the users PC with a newly installed Office 2010 on and have also tried repairing Office 2010 as well as even deleting the users local profile off the PC and renaming it to. We are using Microsoft Office Excel 2010 32-bit, on Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. It only happened when trying to open Excel files outside of Excel. I had this issue a few weeks ago with one specific user. I had rebuilt his profile, did full re-installs, and even a re-image after trying all of the above. These worked for a bit, maybe a day at most. Our users documents point to network storage, which I'm assuming is causing some kind of issue. The only time I could open the Excel documents was to open Excel and then open the file inside of Excel. I ended up reluctantly importing his spreadsheets into Google Drive. I did find a work around with the office 2013 version that we deployed through SSRS. Basically during the required hidden installation to the users it appeared that this error occurred when the two users still had office programs still open so the files overwrote the 2010 version and caused this error. After dumping both versions to install a clean one everything worked normally. Not sure if this helps but it's one option for assistance to anyone. We get this error because we have excel open in separate isntances each time a file is double-clicked. That technique of opening multiple instances is not supported by Microsoft, so we had to do it another way. Every time an update for Office comes down it resets that key. If I don't catch it, we get that error. Check the value on these keys. I would highly recommend figuring out which one and only doing that as some of these will open up security risks for you... Are they opening the files from a network share or network folder? It could be a trust issue coming from Excel. I had this problem before and this solved the problem for me. I have this same problem, but Excel wont even open.. When i click on them nothing happens. Other programs work but not Office 365. Muniappan I've given up on finding an answer myself. It could be permissions, as the error didn't occur on the machine with an administrative account, but alas, I haven't the time or need to fix the issue any longer. Hi All, I have the same problem as people above. Windows 8 64b, Office 2013. None of the proposed solutions worked for me. It happens regardless whether the excel file comes from Excel 2013 or older. This is most irritating. Also the automatic fix from Microsoft states that the fix doesn't apply to my computer. Thanks in advance for more suggestions.
